Crackdown on the Fake Likes and Reviews Economy in E-Commerce!
Sanctions have tightened against fake reviews, artificial likes, and manipulated five-star ratings used to make products appear more popular on e-commerce platforms.
For millions of online shoppers, product star ratings, likes, and user reviews play a critical role in purchasing decisions. However, the growing market for artificial engagement has called the reliability of these indicators into question. The Ministry of Trade has intensified inspections against paid positive reviews, ratings on unpurchased items, and the suppression of negative feedback.
Access Blocks Against Artificial Engagement
The Advertising Board issued access block decisions against numerous websites selling five-star reviews, follower bots, artificial favorites, and automated cart-addition services designed to create a false perception of demand.
Heavy Fines for Hiding Negative Reviews
Under the Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices Regulation, commissioning unverified reviews or hiding legitimate negative consumer evaluations carries strict administrative fines exceeding 2.1 million TRY. Buyers are advised to focus on verified purchase badges and detailed technical feedback rather than raw star counts.
